Customer credit (Khata) accounts

Selling on credit, recording payments, and keeping the balance real.

What Khata does

Khata is the optional credit-sales module: goods now, payment later. You record the sale against the customer, record payments as they come in, and the khata screen shows who owes what.

It adds a customer ledger, statements, and a receivables view.

Recording a credit sale

Select the customer at the till and complete the sale against their account rather than taking payment. The balance goes onto their ledger.

For this to work you need the customer recorded — credit sales to "walk-in" cannot be chased.

Recording payments

Record each payment as it arrives, with the correct date rather than today's. A payment dated wrongly makes the aging wrong, and aging is the whole point of the screen.

Part payments are normal. The balance stays outstanding until it is cleared.

What to remember about credit

Credit is a loan you are making. The khata balance is real money that is not in your bank yet, and the longer it sits the less likely it is to arrive.

"A customer says they paid"

Look at the khata screen for that customer. If the payment is not there, it was never recorded — someone took the money without entering it. Record it with the correct date.

Getting the module

Khata is an optional module on the Desktop POS and is included in the Pro edition. If it is missing after you have bought it, make sure the app has connected since the module was added, then restart it.

See the Kinxso POS manual for the module list.
